What is TRC?
A World Without Gag (from now on UMSM) in 2016, organized the first edition of The Right Cut, this sought to empower participants to exploit their artistic talent and, through a short film, could give voice to any violation of the free exercise of rights or even of human dignity itself, generating stories that would awaken sensitivity and support towards these cases.
In this first contest, the organization consolidated different alliances between various organizations and institutions at a national and international level, such as : Carr Center for Human Rights Policy, the David Rockefeller Center for Latin America Studies at Harvard University, Ambulante Documentary Festival, among others.
The short film winner of this edition was “La Tumba”, a Venezuelan independent short film made by María Eugenia Morón and acted by Franklin Virgües. María Eugenia had the opportunity to travel to Harvard University to show the video and sensitize people on how human rights were being violated in the country to people who were ideological dissidents of the national government.
This year, the international short film contest on Human Rights The Right Cut 2019 is organized and promoted by the NGO Un Mundo Sin Mordaza, with the support of Amnesty International, in partnership with the French Embassy in Venezuela, the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University, and the Social Network Twitter. Thanks to the joint work and the collaboration of these strategic partners, an additional value was generated to the contest, achieving a reach throughout the American continent.
On this occasion the general objective of The Right Cut 2019 is to illustrate, denounce and generate solidarity around the Freedom of Expression as a fundamental right of the human being. Therefore, the main theme of all the short participants of this edition will be freedom of expression and its aspects.
